General Information:
Generic Name: Human Normal Albumin
Brand Name: Alburel 20%
Packing: Glass vial
Strength: 20% (20g/100mL)
Manufacturer: Reliance Life Sciences
Form: Injectable solution
Category: Blood Product / Plasma Volume Expander
Product Intro:
Alburel 20% is a sterile, non-pyrogenic preparation of human albumin formulated at a concentration of 20%. It is derived from pooled human plasma and used in medical emergencies requiring rapid plasma volume expansion and protein replacement.

Uses:
Alburel 20% is indicated in the management of:
  1. Hypovolemia (due to trauma, surgery, or shock)
  2. Hypoalbuminemia
  3. Burns (especially extensive third-degree burns)
  4. Acute liver failure and ascites
  5. Nephrotic syndrome
  6. Hemodialysis-associated complications
  7. Cardiopulmonary bypass support

Storage Instructions:
  1. Store between 2°C and 25°C
  2. Do not freeze
  3. Protect from light
  4. Once opened, use immediately and discard any unused portion

How it Works (Mechanism of Action):
Alburel contains albumin, the main protein in human plasma, responsible for maintaining colloidal osmotic pressure. It draws fluid from the interstitial space into the vascular compartment, increasing plasma volume and stabilizing blood pressure.

Side Effects:
Common Side Effects:
  1. Mild fever
  2. Nausea
  3. Headache
  4. Flushing
  5. Chills
Severe Side Effects:
  1. Allergic reactions (rash, wheezing, hypotension, anaphylaxis)
  2. Pulmonary edema
  3. Circulatory overload
  4. Electrolyte imbalance (especially with large or repeated doses)

Dosage (Typical Recommended Dose):
  1. The dose varies by clinical need and patient weight
  2. Typical adult dose: 100 mL (20 g) given as a slow IV infusion
  3. Dosage is titrated based on lab results (albumin, hematocrit, etc.) and patient response

Method of Administration:
  1. Administered via intravenous infusion only
  2. Use a standard IV set
  3. Infuse slowly to avoid circulatory overload
  4. Can be diluted with isotonic saline if required

Precautions:
  1. Use with caution in patients with cardiac failure, severe anemia, or renal insufficiency
  2. Monitor for signs of fluid overload and electrolyte imbalance
  3. Avoid rapid infusion in elderly or volume-sensitive patients
  4. Not recommended during dehydration without appropriate fluid resuscitation

Drug Interactions:
  1. No major drug interactions reported
  2. Avoid mixing with other drugs in the same IV line
  3. Monitor closely when co-administered with antihypertensives or diuretics

Allergies:
  1. Contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to albumin
  2. Watch for allergic signs like rash, itching, or difficulty breathing
  3. Discontinue immediately if any hypersensitivity reaction occurs

Overdose Information:
  1. Overdose may cause hypervolemia, pulmonary edema, or hypertension
  2. Management includes discontinuing infusion and providing symptomatic treatment such as diuretics or oxygen therapy

Missed Dose Instructions:
  1. In hospital settings, doses are administered as per the physician’s direction
  2. If missed, consult the attending doctor—do not self-administer

Additional Notes:
  1. Prepared from human plasma; safety ensured by viral inactivation and purification processes
  2. Suitable for both adults and pediatric patients when clinically indicated
  3. Not a substitute for whole blood in massive hemorrhage
