How it Works (Mechanism of Action):
Gemcitabine mimics a natural building block of DNA. When incorporated into DNA during replication, it causes cell cycle arrest and apoptosis (cell death). It also inhibits ribonucleotide reductase, reducing the number of nucleotides available for DNA synthesis, which is crucial for rapidly dividing cancer cells.
