How it Works (Mechanism of Action):
Temozolomide is a prodrug that is quickly converted to the active compound MTIC (monomethyl triazeno imidazole carboxamide), which causes DNA methylation at guanine residues. This results in cell cycle arrest and apoptosis (programmed cell death) in rapidly dividing tumor cells.
