Product Intro:
Imatib 400mg is a generic formulation of Imatinib Mesylate, manufactured by Cipla Ltd, widely used for treating cancers such as Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) and Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST). As a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), Imatib is designed to block the activity of specific proteins involved in the proliferation of malignant cells, offering effective disease control and improved survival rates.

Uses:
  1. Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) – Philadelphia chromosome positive
  2. Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST)
  3. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) – Philadelphia chromosome positive
  4. Hypereosinophilic Syndrome (HES) / Chronic Eosinophilic Leukemia (CEL)
  5. Myelodysplastic/Myeloproliferative Diseases (MDS/MPD)
  6. Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans (DFSP)
  7. Systemic Mastocytosis

Storage Instructions:
  1. Store at 15°C to 30°C
  2. Protect from light, moisture, and heat
  3. Keep in original packaging until use
  4. Store out of reach of children and pets

How it Works (Mechanism of Action):
Imatinib is a selective tyrosine kinase inhibitor that blocks the BCR-ABL fusion protein, which is responsible for abnormal cell growth in CML.
  1. It also inhibits c-KIT and PDGFR, critical in the development of GIST.
  2. This inhibition halts tumor cell proliferation and leads to cell death, reducing tumor burden and disease progression.

Side Effects:
Common Side Effects:
  1. Nausea and vomiting
  2. Fluid retention (edema)
  3. Muscle cramps
  4. Rash or skin irritation
  5. Fatigue
  6. Diarrhea
  7. Headache
Severe Side Effects:
  1. Liver enzyme elevation
  2. Low white/red blood cells (myelosuppression)
  3. Cardiac issues (rare)
  4. Severe skin reactions
  5. Tumor lysis syndrome
  6. GI bleeding

Dosage (Typical Recommended Dose):
  1. CML (Chronic Phase): 400 mg once daily
  2. CML (Accelerated/Blast Crisis): 600 mg once daily
  3. GIST: 400–600 mg per day
  4. Dosage may be adjusted based on clinical response and patient tolerance

Method of Administration:
  1. Administer orally with a large glass of water
  2. Take with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects
  3. Swallow whole – do not chew or crush
  4. Preferably taken at the same time every day

Precautions:
  1. Monitor blood counts and liver/kidney function regularly
  2. Avoid use during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary
  3. Use reliable contraception during treatment
  4. Inform your doctor of any history of cardiac, liver, or kidney conditions
  5. Avoid contact with sick individuals due to immune suppression

Drug Interactions:
  1. Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, erythromycin) can increase Imatinib levels
  2. CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampin, phenytoin) can reduce drug effectiveness
  3. May interact with acetaminophen, warfarin, antifungals, and antibiotics
  4. Avoid grapefruit juice – can affect drug metabolism

Allergies:
  1. Contraindicated in individuals with known allergy to Imatinib or its excipients
  2. Symptoms may include rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing

Overdose Information:
  1. Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, swelling, hypotension, liver issues
  2. In case of overdose, seek emergency medical help
  3. No specific antidote; treatment is symptomatic and supportive

Missed Dose Instructions:
  1. Take missed dose as soon as possible
  2. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next one
  3. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one
