Product Intro:
Lenakast 10mg contains Lenalidomide, a derivative of thalidomide, and is classified as an immunomodulatory agent. It is used either alone or in combination with other therapies to treat cancers of the blood and bone marrow. Lenakast is known for its anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenic, and anti-tumor properties.

Uses:
Lenakast 10mg is prescribed for:
  1. Multiple Myeloma (MM) – usually in combination with dexamethasone
  2. Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) – particularly in patients with deletion 5q cytogenetic abnormality
  3. Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) – in relapsed or refractory settings
  4. Follicular and marginal zone lymphoma
  5. Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) – under clinical evaluation
  6. Maintenance therapy post-stem cell transplant in myeloma patients

How it Works (Mechanism of Action):
Lenalidomide works through multiple mechanisms:
  1. Inhibits angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels) which tumors need to grow
  2. Enhances immune system function by activating T cells and natural killer (NK) cells
  3. Inhibits proliferation and induces apoptosis (cell death) in cancer cells
  4. Reduces levels of inflammatory cytokines

Common Side Effects:

  2. Diarrhea or constipation

  5. Low white blood cell count (neutropenia)
  6. Anemia or thrombocytopenia
Severe Side Effects:
  1. Blood clots (DVT/PE)

Dosage (Typical Recommended Dose):

Method of Administration:
  1. Take the capsule orally with water, with or without food
  2. Swallow whole—do not open, crush, or chew
  3. Take at the same time each day

Precautions:
  1. Pregnancy Warning: Contraindicated—can cause severe birth defects
  2. Females of childbearing potential must use 2 forms of contraception
  3. Avoid blood donation and sperm donation during and for 4 weeks after therapy
  4. Periodic blood tests are required to monitor blood cell counts
  5. Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice

  1. Increased risk of thrombosis with erythropoietin-stimulating agents

Overdose Information:

Missed Dose Instructions:
  1. If less than 12 hours late, take the missed dose as soon as remembered
  2. If more than 12 hours late, skip the dose—do not double dose
  3. Resume the normal schedule the next day

Additional Notes:
  1. Routine blood tests are essential before each treatment cycle
  2. Patients should be enrolled in a risk management program if required
  3. Patients must not share this medication with others
  4. Inform the doctor immediately if symptoms of blood clots occur (chest pain, swelling, shortness of breath)
